Thanks to the recent rains in February and March, The Willit’s City reservoirs now contain more water on this date than in any year since at least 2003 with the exception of 2010. As a result, the Willits City Council has voted to reduce their water emergency level from Phase V to Phase IV. But not everyone was happy with the decision. Councilman Bruce Burton was the sole vote against the resolution. Phase IV continues to restrict commercial and industrial users to use 25 percent less than last year. Burton expressed concern that continuing to restrict water usage by commercial businesses was having an economic impact on many of them. He was also concerned about the loss of revenue to the city’s water fund resulting from the conservation measures. There were also some residents who were against the resolution because they support continuing stage Phase V restrictions.
