Hearing for Couple Accused of Child Abuse Delayed

The preliminary hearing for a couple accused of abusing and torturing their children has been postponed for another two months to give the defense more time to review the evidence against his clients. Donald Earl Dunakin and his girlfriend of 30 years, Ina Selene Medina are each charged with 21 counts of torture, and assault. The charges stem from incidents that date back to 1997, according to the District Attorney’s Office. Authorities believe the couple abused at least two of their five children at various times over a 13-year period. According to previous reports from the Mendocino County Sheriffs Office, the children believed to have been victims ranged in age from 3 to 16 years old at the time of the alleged abuse. A third adult believed to have been involved in the abuse of the children was arrested Thursday in the ongoing investigation. Dunakin is held at the Mendocino County Jail under $3 million bail; Medina’s bail is $2.75 million. The DA’s Office says the couple faces the possibility of life in prison without parole.
