Studies to be Done on Westshore Pool

There wasn’t an empty seat in the room of the Lakeport Unified School District Office for a discussion about the future of the Westshore Pool. The Division of the State Architect stated that the district would be in violation of the education code if students used the Westshore Pool, and that the district is liable and board members could be held personally responsible if someone was injured. DSA pointed to the hillside where the pool is located for potential public safety issues if seismic activity occurs and the soil underneath the pool is not solid enough. In addition, the pool is not in compliance with the American with Disabilities Act because that steep hill is the only access to the facility. The original designer of the pool, has offered to do structural, preliminary and soil studies free-of-charge. The board will discuss the pool again in March after it gets results from those studies.
