Mendocino County Sets Record

Men­do­cino County has set a new record…but it’s not one the county wants. 2014 is the dri­est year on record with no relief in sight. The val­ley usu­ally gets about 37 inches of rain a year. 0.18 inches is all Ukiah’s got­ten so far this year. It’s hard to find any­thing that the drought hasn’t dried up around the county. National Weather Ser­vice mete­o­rol­o­gist Jeff Tonkin told the Ukiah Daily Jour­nal that he believes the area will see a cooler than nor­mal sec­ond half of win­ter, with nor­mal pre­cip­i­ta­tion and snow, but nowhere near enough to catch up in most places.
